Very helpful staff. Excellent food. Spacious and very comfortable room with a lovely view of the river.
Bed was huge, always a plus! Lovely view, fairly quiet area but location was amazing.
The breakfast options felt limited for the price.
The room was to hot and uncomfortable to sleep in. And the lift wasn’t working which we should of got a email saying this because I have a knee problems and can’t walk up to many stairs as we were on the 4 th floor.
The location was very accessible, and the female members of staff were all very friendly.
Upon arrival, the lifts were broken. We were informed they wouldn't be fixed for another two weeks; this was unfortunate as we were staying on the third floor. We instead had to carry our luggage up the stairs, which were dirty, slippery, and falling apart. On the second day, I tripped on the edge of a step that had come away. I called reception to tell them to which they responded that they didn't know what I was going on about. Their dismissive attitude was very disappointing, particularly as over the next 12 hours the steps became gradually more damaged, ultimately leaving exposed nails - quite dangerous seeing as there was no alternative way to reach the rooms. The poor attitude of the reception staff continued when the magnetic door keys stopped working at one point. I used the phone in the corridor to ask if someone from reception could come and help, to which I was told that we would have to wait as there was nobody available at that moment. I asked how long this wait would be and was told "dunno...five hours?". Generally pretty rubbish customer service. The hotel room itself was nice, although the lighting was incredibly harsh and despite having 6/7 different switches to operate them, there were only two lighting options to chose from. In the bathroom, the TV adjacent to the bath didn't work, and the toilet rolls and tissues hadn't been replaced. Individually, all of these issues may seem quite small but together they added up. It was disappointing to pay extra to stay at the Mercure where my expectations are a little higher due to the brand name, when I could have stayed at an alternative "budget" hotel chain a few doors away for a cheaper and more pleasant experience.
The location of the hotel is, of course, very good - right in the city centre and convenient for everything we wanted to do. There was a good choice offered with the breakfast buffet too.
I didn't feel the hotel in general was very welcoming - I didn't get a feeling of warmth and hospitality. Whilst the room we had was spacious and we had everything we needed, the bed wasn't terribly comfortable, so we didn't sleep brilliantly. We were also right next to the hub of cleaning activities with all the associated noises. At breakfast I was a bit put-out that things were being cleared from the buffet at bang-on 10am - I always assume that the cut-off time given is for the last people seated, not the end of availability. Oh, and warm plates for the hot food wouldn't go amiss either!
