I've never given a bad review of a motel
I've stayed in this Days Inn before when coming to visit my son at nearby Oberlin Conservatory. It's very reasonably priced and just a quick 15 minute drive to the college. It's pretty much a no-frills, but offers a modest complementary breakfast where I enjoyed speaking to some of the other guests.
This trip, my wife and 22-year-old son and I checked in around midnight and we're given a room which was not clean visually or to the smell. In the morning after flushing the toilet water came leaking from the base of the toilet. We called and a maintenance man came quickly and explained that the seal was broken and we would be given another room. At breakfast there was one young lady who was in charge of (at least for the time) the front desk, and taking care of the complementary breakfast. Later I saw she was also cleaning rooms and carrying garbage bags out to the bins outdoors. When I left the room to have a coffee and wait for my family to get ready, I saw her running down the hall crying. As I had a cup of coffee I overheard the manager scolding her for her attitude, and She was pleading to be given another chance. I certainly don't know all of the background, but it was definitely and pleasant to hear this exchange. The next room we were given with a few doors down, however the motor was bad, it smelled like mold. The fan in the bathroom did not work. We were given another room for the third night. It was cleaner and did not smell like mold, however the bathroom did smell as if it were cleaned by a dirty mop. After the third night my wife spoke to the front desk and asked to make sure that our room was cleaned during the day. When we returned in the evening, there had been no maid service in that room even though she was told they would see to it. We put a few things in the refrigerator only to find out in the morning that it was simply not functioning. We did stay in this room for the third and fourth night of our stay there. All that I have mentioned here are correctable, and I certainly hope that things will be better in the future.
