This is my idea of heaven - the gardens with the lake filled with terrapins and fish, and exotic birdlife, and the collection of pools to sit beside and listen to the birds, in perfect peace, we enjoyed lunch sat beside the lagoon and then a fabulous aftrenoon beside the pool. We left feeling so relaxed. The food was fabulous, and great selection of local and international dishes so you have plenty of choice and the best Margharitas - infact we have benchmarked them as the pinnacle by which all others will be judged! The room was large and very compfortable, with seating areas inside and out, with howler monkeys in the trees, the noise at night is just fabulous with all the sounds of the tropical forest lulling you to sleep. A special mention for the owner Raphael and his team, they are just so lovely and helpful. we could only stay three nights as they we fully booked, but I would head back without hesittation should I ever be in the neighbourhood again. We took a long days trip up to Yaxchilan which was amazing although tiring, and the ruins at Palenque are some of the finest we have seen throughout the peninsula, we didn't see much of the town as the hotel and grounds were just so amazing.
Breakfast was inadequate and excessively sugary. No protein, only fruit and sweetbread. No option of a healthy breakfast or a substantial breakfast. The least satisfactory breakfast experience of a three week tour of Mexico.
Courteous staff — proactive and helpful but discreet. Helpful owner, excellent restaurant with varied menu. Beautiful pool and grounds.
One of the very best, swimming pools "in nature" one could ever imagine! several beautiful pools situated in a well planned but natural looking jungle, we heard the howler monkey family and saw many birds! The main welcome structure is a huge Mayan sort of "tower" of reeds and bamboo. The mattress was excellent! my friend and I shared it and it was perfect for the two of use. The shower was BIG and had tons of great hot water and water pressure. Our large room had its own terrace with oversize chairs. It was super super quiet and there are only a few rooms here so it was a restful place to stay. The owner came to talk to us each day at our table and is passionate about the local indigenous culture and monuments. We loved the handmade soap in the bathroom and that a hairdryer was already there we did not have to ask for it. Sparkling clean! The natural part of the premises was so very beautiful! There were some really interesting old woven pieces as the artwork in our room and in the dining and reception that were very nicely chosen, beautiful, ceramics and such. The owner being both German and Italian spoke many languages and the dinner menu included cuisine from these places. We loved the dumplings and ordered them twice at dinner. Very ample breakfast.
There was one waiter who acted in an exaggerated way in order to ingratiate himself to us and actually stood at our table the last day saying that "this was his last shift" and hint hint we needed to leave him a tip. This was unpleasant. The AC unit when in high was very noisy. The light switches were really confusing and the room was overlit: also the fixtures themselves were all of different style types which broke the overall aesthetic in this hotel. The food was "OK" but a bit expensive we felt. There were no screens so you did not have an option to sleep in the normal night temperature. We did see in the photos when we booked that the place was kind of a Palenque "wonderland" in that there is a fake Palenque style tower on the premises and that the buildings are ornamented heavily with sculpted ornament. Some people might really love this, but as artists we found it a bit kitsch. Also the furniture in general was dark, very heavy in look and "Tiki" in flavor and seemed the size for very tall men, not for women of 5' in height: our bathroom sink was almost at shoulder height.
Todo era súper bien: el ambiente, los servicios, la comida
Lo único que me faltó era lenta conexión al internet
