good and fresh
The owner was so helpful and friendly! I loved the decoration of the hotel and the little luxury touches, for example the slippers and robe.
Was a little noisy but we were so sleepy it didn’t stop us from sleeping.
Location was excellent, the hotel was very close to the beach, good restaurants and bars, a picnic area with view on the port and, best of all, right at the foot of the Sunday street market, which had splendid stalls. Even though there was no sea-view, the view from the 1st floor terrace over trees and rooftops was absolutely delightful. The room and bath were simply and tastefully decorated, bathrobes and slippers provided, bed and literie exceptionally comfortable, bottles of mineral water offered each day on the night tables. The hotelier was very friendly and helpful, the parking behind the hotel wonderfully convenient (especially as places were impossible to find elsewhere on market day).
Although we loved the hotel, and would certainly be glad to return, it was unfortunate that the rooms were not well sound-proofed: water evacuation from shower and toilet in other rooms was quite loud, as was any movement or talking in the hallways and, most regrettably at night, from the kitchen downstairs at the Brasserie de la Houle and from the bar and restaurant terraces down the street. In spite of this, we agreed that we had rarely slept so well (we must find out what model mattress they have). Breakfast was copious and of good quality (local yoghurt, four cheeses, breads and meats, but there was no cooked food available, i.e. eggs, bacon, sausages, etc. This was not an issue for us, but for the price of the hotel one might have expected this to be offered. Some might find it inconvenient that the reception desk is not staffed full-time; since it is such a small hotel, it is understandable that the hotelier would not need to man the desk all day. But we hadn't realised that this meant that if we would arrive early there would be no one to welcome us - this was not a problem for us (we simply went for a picnic), but it should be made clear at booking that arrival times are precise for a reason! All things considered, a bit expensive for the level of services, but nevertheless a lovely get-away hotel with a personal, informal feeling, in a perfect location.
The owner is absolutely charming, chilled, welcoming, and he made of his small hotel (only 6 bedroom, a very charming place). It is not luxurious, but the mattress is pretty good we found for instance, insulation is good, view is also quite nice.
Really minor things could be improved such as coffee machine in the room (although that would be more to be found in 4 stars hotels), or the bathtub where it is hard to take a shower without spraying water everywhere.
Nice breakfast. Very helpful owner. Convenient for walkers on GR 34
